The Euganean Hills rise
unexpectedly from the flat
earth: they are the product of
volcanic eruptions that took
place millions of years ago.
These mounts have been devoted
to wine making ever since the
Paleovenetians of the “Atestine”
civilisation introduced this
cultivation, between the 10th
and 5th century B.C. The
landscape is in fact a perfect
geometrical sequence of
vineyards, villages and medieval
castles; Renaissance villas and
patrician residences; churches,
monasteries and retreats,
inhabited up until now by
Benedictines and the Camaldolese.
A treasure chest contained
within the naturalistic island,
which is protected by the
Regional Park. On the way to the
Strada del Vino Colli Euganei,
the favourite places of
illustrious personalities such
as Petrarch, Goethe, Foscolo,
Byron and Shelley are visible.
Food originality and sincere
wines: in other words, a
guarantee given by the Euganean
Hills to the aficionados of good
cuisine. The local kitchen
originates in the rural culture:
therefore, we recommend the
sausages and white meat; the
soups are also delicious
(particularly the ones made of
beans, seasoned with a drop of
extra virgin oil); inviting is
the home made tagliatelle
(Italian noodles); savoury the
barbecue. Moreover, Nature helps
create special flavours,
offering in abundance herbs to
combine with the risotto, the
omelette or just to taste as a
starter.
